Steve Crane

A Passion for Sustainable Financial Management

A consultant, educator and expert in sustainable finance, Steve has spent over two decades designing and implementing sustainable change strategies for social enterprises by aligning financial management, relationship development, and organizational behavior. His passion is to identify strategies that strengthen the financial position and sustainability of enterprises to deliver positive social impacts.

Steve’s fervent belief in sustainable finance originated during his two decades as a commercial banker in a large regional bank. Having experienced first-hand the peaks and flows of business cycles and their potentially devastating impact on his clients’ businesses, he began to search for business models that were more financially sustainable. Steve sensed that change was needed in how businesses were being managed and decisions made and picked up an MBA in Management from Golden Gate University. The quest for sustainable models eventually led him to the field of Organizational Behavior and Development where he earned his doctorate in Organization Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology. This additional know-how gave Steve the ability to offer his business clients a more holistic approach to achieving financial and social sustainability.

Steve also has been teaching finance in graduate schools for the past 15 years. His Managerial Finance course at Presidio Graduate School has fully integrated sustainability since January 2008. The Presidio experience expanded his holistic approach by adding a third leg to the sustainability platform with the inclusion of environmental sustainability.

Although he has spent most of his adult life in the San Francisco Bay Area, Steve still claims roots in Michigan where he was born and raised, and where he received his BA in Art History with a focus on Asian Art and Culture from the University of Michigan.
